[Ltsp-discuss] About Schola S-1000CE

Hi folks,

I was offered a bunch of Schola S-1000CE thin clients. I would use them
in our LTSP Linux setup.

There is a data sheet, it says VIA Eden 1GHz, and as far as I know they
have 512 MB RAM. Graphics chipset is Via Chrome 9HC3 with shared memory
and a max of 1920 x 1200.

There is an embedded Windows on them which I guess I couldn't make use
of, but I think they would be able to boot from PXE.

And my question is this: Once I heard that there are problems with Linux
on VIA Eden and VIA chipsets. Would you deprecate this machine? Do you
think 512 MB Ram is ok? And can I be sure to boot from PXE with them?

We use up-to-date browsers like Firefox (begins to make slight problems
on the old clients we have now), and office software like Libre and MS
(via Wine). With such a client my hope is that we can solve some
graphics performance problems because now we do not have graphics
acceleration.

So if anyone here knows this or a similar one, thank you for your insight!

Regards
Rolf
