Hi,

sorry to drop in with an emergency, but I have a production site (an
office with 6 ltsp PC Ubuntu 12.04) that have worked like a charm for
almost 2 years and that now doesn't let people in.

the ldm screen reports "server not responding" and /var/log/ldm.log
reports:

nov 25 11:16:11: [ssh] INFO: calling rc.d pressh scripts
nov 25 11:16:17: [ssh] CRITICAL: no response, restarting

server is responding w/o problems, ssh is working, login via console
is working. Users are defined on ldap on the server and getent passwd
shows them all right. /home is mounted and all permissions are set ok.

How can I debug what exactly happens? Who's issuing the message above?
it that a script I can debug? I'm not aware of any change apart the
fact that the linux server war restarted due to power failure.

Hi,
I use iptraf small but efective program to debug or see what happening with
the ip's and the ports.

You can monitor with it the ethX (let say eth0) which connected to the
switch for the thin client terminales.

I my self so many time had diffrent installation every time almost with
another problem but thank to iptraf can locate the source of the problem.

With you luck,

I used tcpdump but the only thing I can observe is that there is
traffic on the port 22 and the server logs in /var/log/auth.log:

Connection closed by 192.168.1.42 [preauth]

I'd really need to know how to debug ldm problems. I reapeat that this
systema has worked for almost 2 years.

Yesterday I rebuild the image, but the problem persists.

rispondo in italian fuori lista:

qualche volta mi e' capitato ( e sicuramente mi capitera' di nuovo) perche' dimentico:
ltsp-update-kernels
ltsp-update-sshkeys

Puo' essere il caso?

Un saluto, Andrea
