Hi all,
Has anybody experience with HP t510 Thinclients and LTSP ?
Or is it more handy using a diskless PC (e.g. to reuse it someday later as a Standard PC) ?

TIA

Edgar

Choose from 2 high performing configs, both with 100TB of bandwidth.
Higher redundancy.Lower latency.Increased capacity.Completely compliant.

I haven't used them specifically, but reading these specs:

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/12454-12454-321959-338927-3640406-5226831.html?dnr=2

Processor: VIA Eden X2 U4200 (1 GHz, 2 cores)
Memory: 2 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM
Graphics: VIA ChromotionHD 2.0 integrated graphics

Assuming it supports PXE network boot, and that the VIA graphics are
reasonably well supported by your LTSP distro of choice, it should work
well as an LTSP thin client. It has 2GB of ram, which is enough ram for
an LTSP fat client, but the processor *might* be a little slow.

live well,

I haven't used this specific model, but it uses VIA video chips, which
perform poorly with LTSP (unless their drivers have improved in the past
couple of years).

We have started to use Zotac Zbox's with 2gb ram (smallest available)
and so far have worked perfectly
http://www.zotac.com/products/mini-pcs/zbox/product/zbox/detail/zbox-id18-plus.html
as this was the lowest cost thin client we could find (apart from old PC's)

Hi,

I have used this client for a while and I daresay that the only advantage
is its power efficiency. Gigabit ethernet may also be considered a plus,
but on the other hand it should rather be standard than a sophisticated
feature. In general this client works just fine as any other device with
PXE, however I did not try to use more advanced LTSP features (e.g.
localapps), so maybe it has some significant pros in this field. If the
energy in your place is not extremely expensive, I would recommend you to
use some cheaper client. As soon as I get my BananaPi I will try to adapt
it to work as LTSP thin client. I will update you with the results.

Best regards,
Paweł Ptasznik

I started my LTSP migration using standard PCs as I could quickly revert
the user back to Windows XP if the new LTSP server didn't live up to
expectations. I've gone through many different thin clients since to
save power, space and maintenance and have ended up using the Shuttle
DS437, it's reliable, fanless, fast and handles two screens nicely.

Here is my full list of thin clients I've looked at in the past

Thanks for the hint! As I think about replacing my old VIA fanless
client in my office, I looked around for this one, it's mostly sold as a
barebone for around 180 - 190 Euros here. It does accept up to 8 GB RAM,
do you know if it's 64bit?

Then I have the impression there is a successor in the market, named
DS437 "T", but I cannot find any difference between the two models.
Dealers seem to make no difference in price anyway.

Yes it is 64bit reference: http://ark.intel.com/products/71995/Intel-Celeron-Processor-1037U-2M-Cache-1_80-GHz

The T means support for Trusted Platform Module (TPM) to secure highly sensitive data. This can be used in Linux if you want to Ref: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/TPM otherwise just disable it in the BIOs.
