[Ltsp-discuss] Fat client: VLC playback of CD has huge gaps

I'm testing playing music on some fat clients, which are repurposed PC's
with installed CD drives.

If I launch a CD in VLC from the file manager prompt, VLC does not
display Title/Artist/Album, and also starts with Track 10, 11, 12 ...
instead of Track 1. But with this launch method, playback is very
smooth for the most part with very few dropouts.

If instead I launch from within VLC (Media: Open Disc: Audio CD),
Title/Artist/Album does display, but I get dropouts that tend to happen
in multiples of about 18-19 seconds, and instead of a dropout, I get a
huge 1, 2 or 3 minute gap somewhere in the track.

In quick testing, the problem does not seem to affect MP3 files.

Can anyone duplicate this problem, or does anyone know of a solution?

I should have added that I'm running Lubuntu 14.04.2 i386.
