[Ltsp-discuss] Fat clients with software from host

I installed LTSP on a Suse Leap 42.2 server successfully (it is Kiwi
LTSP there) and then switched to run the clients as fat clients.

I also succeeded in installing firefox (as a first example) in the
chroot, it runs fine, BUT: Isn't it rather roundabout to use a separate
virtual disc with everything on it you want for the clients, if there is
already the server providing the whole software?

Somewhere I read that ltsp-pnp under some ubuntu flavour is able to do
this, so would there be a way of achieving this under Suse too?

Unfortunately, the KIWI-LTSP list doesn't mirror my posts to it, they
appear in the archive, but it seems they are not delivered. So I write here.

Pick any 16.04.2 flavor, Mate desktop works best. I'd recommend this
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cyberorg-home/files/Li-f-e/

Use greek school ppa and ltsp-pnp instructions linked in the link above.

Yes it should be possible, someone has to develop support for that, I
maintain kiwi-ltsp, but now have moved on to Ubuntu so if you feel like
taking the project on I'll be happy to provide access to the kiwi-ltsp
repositories.

Yes, maybe I should go through it once to have a look at the way how
it's achieved.

Hm, I would be interested, but first I must understand how it works. I
am only just beginning to understand the mechanisms of the ordinary thin
and fat client techniques, and as I am not an IT specialist this may
still take some time. I usually need examples to look on, like the life
distro. But it has to be installed and played with, so I can see what it
does.

As there will be Easter holidays here now, I hope to find some quiet
hours as nobody else will need the server. First I thought I could try
all this in a VM, but it's rather slow, and testing on the real server
with a dedicated HD proved to be more real-life.

You would help me understand how it works, would you?

Rolf
